Hummingbird

A hummingbird, reversing.

Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards, and their hearts can beat over 1,000 times a minute.

Hippopotamus

A hippopotamus, not swimming.

Hippos make their own red sunscreen and cannot really swim, so they walk along the river bottom instead.

Cat

A cat, not tasting anything sweet.

Cats cannot taste sweetness, which may explain their attitude to everything else.

Butterfly

A butterfly, tasting the flower with its feet.

Butterflies taste with their feet, which means every landing is also a meal review.

Flamingo

A flamingo, pink on account of lunch.

Flamingos are not born pink; they turn pink from what they eat, and stop being pink if they stop.

Octopus

An octopus, using roughly three hearts' worth of effort.

An octopus has three hearts and blue blood, and one heart stops when it swims, so it prefers to walk.

Wombat

A wombat, not currently producing cubes.

The wombat is the only animal known to produce cube-shaped droppings, and it does not take questions.

Giraffe

A giraffe, shown at full height because it would not crouch.

A giraffe is so tall that the weather at its head is reported separately from the weather at its feet.
