A spoon is a utensil shaped like a spoon. It knows it is a spoon at all times; it knows this because it knows it is not a fork. By subtracting fork from everything it could be, it arrives at spoon.[1]

A fork is a spoon with gaps, and a knife is a spoon that has given up on holding things altogether.

Reflections

Looking into a spoon shows your face upside down on one side and the right way up on the other. Nobody has ever needed this, but everybody has checked.[2]

Use

  • Soup: spooned.
  • Cereal: spooned.
  • Jelly: spooned, enthusiastically.
  • Steak: not spooned; this has been tried.
