A cube is a square that was told to think outside the box, and became one.[1]

It has six square faces, twelve edges and eight corners, which is more corners than a square and more corners than anyone has ever needed.

Faces

A cube has six faces but only ever shows three. Geometers spent much of the 1960s walking round cubes to see the other three, only to find that the first three had moved round the back. The missing faces are now considered to exist on the basis that the cube has never denied it.[2]

Sugar cubes

Sugar cubes are cubes of sugar. Sugar spheres were introduced in 1931 and rolled off every saucer in the country; the sugar cone lasted slightly longer, until somebody sat on one.

Ice cubes

Ice cubes are cubes until they are put in a drink, at which point they become small cubes, then ovals, then the drink.[3]
