This is a list of things that are sharp. A thing is sharp if it has a point or an edge fine enough to make a person say “ooh, careful” before anything has happened. The list was compiled by the WinkyPedia Committee on Pointiness, which handled each entry personally for the first draft and with gloves for the second.[1]

Sharp things

  • Pins.
  • Needles, which are pins with a hole in them for thread.
  • A cactus, all over.
  • The corner of a table, at night only. In daylight the same corner is blunt.
  • Cheddar, once described as “mature”.[2]
  • A pencil, until it is used.
  • The number 7, if drawn carefully.
  • A singer who is slightly too high (see piano).
  • Anyone in a good suit.

Not sharp

  • A pillow.
  • A sphere, which has tried.
  • A pencil, after it is used, which is why sharpeners exist.
  • A spoon, which has made its peace with this.

Methodology

Entries were judged by the Standard Poke, in which a committee member gently prods the object and reports back. Anything scoring above 7 on the Poke Scale was listed. Anything scoring 10 was listed from across the room.[3]
