Grey is the colour between black and white. It is the preferred colour of rocks, pigeons, office carpets and November, all of which chose it because it was the safe option.[1]

Shades

There are many shades of grey. A 1987 attempt to count them was abandoned at shade 2,400 when the researchers could no longer tell whether they were counting or just staring at the wall.

Spelling

Grey is spelled gray in American English. It is the same colour, but slightly greyer, or grayer, depending on which side of the Atlantic is looking.[2]
